GENERAL SUMMARY:

Manage and direct payroll processing activities, associated with all pay codes working with all Fleet locations around pay process and a maintain compliance for all pay codes. Driver pay will be audited daily to separate controls for payroll processing. Review, audit, and communicate updates related to output from test payrolls to ensure successful implementation for new initiatives. Review documentation for compliance and consistency of pay codes.

 

DUTIES and ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

§ Manage day to day staff responsibilities to ensure accurate and timely payroll calculations, employee payments, payroll balancing. Accomplish daily activities and handle escalated issues regarding employee payments with Senior Fleet Managers, Fleet Directors, legal, and Employee Relations Team as required.

§ Provide direction, guidance, coaching, compensation recommendations and conduct performance evaluations for staff. Cultivate and coordinate necessary employee training and statistical reporting to enhance employee performance.  Provide comprehensive knowledge and understanding for processing of each payroll site while performing cross training exercises with team to ensure proficient backups are maintained for all payroll processing activities.

§ Evaluate best practices and staffing needs to determine short and long term goals to reduce company expense and implement process improvements for Fleet Payroll. Communicate findings with management on a regular basis.

§ Maintain detailed payroll system processes and procedures, Pay code updates, while working with management team and Financial Systems Support to determine correct placement for new programs and audit process to updates including software and application test reviews and consultation for upgrades and overall system administration.  Perform detail audits locations for accuracy and documentation of pay code adherence.  Systems include Syntelic, Master Mind, or Platform Science.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS:

  • Ability to effectively manage, motivate and develop employees.
  • Firm understanding of payroll laws, calculations, accounting principles, and regulations.
  • Superior organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment while initiating and managing change consistent with strategic initiatives.
  • Self-Reliant with the capacity to resolve conflict while maintaining company values.
  • Team player with the ability to interact and maintain relationships with multiple departments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact with all levels of management.

 

WORK EXPERIENCE and/or EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s or associates degree in business or related field, plus 3 – 5 years of multi-state payroll processing and management experience required.  Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) a plus.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
