    General Summary:

    Primary execution leader for international logistics operations across the network of Dollar General freight forwarders, ocean carriers, import centers, and key service providers. Responsible for implementing carrier and service provider strategies, standardizing process and procedures for international logistics operations ensuring on-time customer delivery and accuracy in reporting. Manages staff of international logistics specialist and senior analyst with responsibility for import center operations, outsourced services, activity based reporting, financials and day-to-day transportation operations.

    Job Details

    • Management of Origin and Ocean Freight Operations
      • Manage Dollar General ocean carriers including but not limited to the provision of weekly volume forecasts, special lift requirements and project cargo
      • Monitor ocean carrier performance on space allocation, transit time adherence and on-time delivery
      • Perform monthly carrier review assessing forecast accuracy, allocation, carrier lift reporting and progress on MQC at individual carrier level
      • Lead annual ocean carrier bid and selection process
      • Manage freight forwarder responsible for all order management functions
    • Supervision of Import Center Execution
      • Serves as lead operator for import center trans-load facilities. Specific areas of focus include:
      • Management of third-party partnerships that provide destination port merchandise deconsolidation services
      • Coordination with third-party and DG Customs team members to ensure timely merchandise flow
      • Monitoring of vessel unloading and timely throughput of merchandise through the import centers
      • Supervise movement of Inbound freight from import center to destination DCs
      • Assists in the design and leads the implementation of all process and procedures for the operation of DG import centers
    • Management of Import Financial Reporting
      • Responsible for producing all monthly financial reports to include accruals, performance to plan and financial forecast
      • Present monthly financial results to the leadership team explaining gaps in performance
      • Develop annual financial plan for international transportation
      • Manage invoice payment process for all import freight movement ensuring accounts are kept current
    • Lead DG Drayage Program

      • Conduct scheduled competitive bidding event for DG container volumes with a focus on providing lowest cost operation with highest level of service
      • Build key relationships with dray carriers and third-party service provider (e.g., ClearTrack) in support of DG import program
      • Develop efficiencies in drayage operations that reduces costs of container detention / demurrage and repositioning
      • Drive performance in container delivery that meets on-time delivery targets for DG DCs
    • Own the DG International Reporting Process
      • Design and implement standardized reporting that monitors carrier performance, on-time delivery and all related shipment cost
      • Supervise the daily, weekly, monthly, annual and ad-hoc report administration by DG International staff and external parties
      • Analyze reporting to highlight trends that support business decision making and identify areas of opportunity
    • Team development and performance management:

      • Responsible for the professional development of assigned team to include training, coaching, and work assignment designed to promote team and individual growth
      • Hire, manage and conduct performance and development reviews of assigned team
      • Manage workload and assist with issues across the HR spectrum for the assigned team

    Qualifications

    § Broad general knowledge of logistics and a deep working knowledge and skill set supporting transportation and logistics operations in a complex, multi-site DC environment

    § Ability to build key business relationships with internal and external business partners

    § Strong business acumen around the cost components of logistics flow of merchandise including cargo consolidation/deconsolidation operations

    § Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both oral and written format to all levels of leadership

    § Ability to analyze large data sets using well-honed computer software skills to develop insights and conclusions for the business

    § Ability to think strategically and fiscally from a functional perspective

     

    Work Experience/Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in business administration, logistics or engineering required. Requires a minimum of 5 - 8 years of work experience, at least 4 of which must have been in the logistics and transportation arena supporting a large-scale transportation and logistics network. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
