Job Details

General responsibilities and duties applicable to all events include:

  • Provide strategic counsel, and propose event ideas (independently, and with a sponsoring department) that support company goals and objectives.
  • Assess, identify and manage strategies, opportunities, potential conflicts and other issues related to corporate events.
  • Establish goals and objectives for meetings, conferences, events.
  • Conceptualize high-quality events and event themes to support Dollar General’s messages (to include the recommendation and execution of programming/agenda, visual props, signage, handouts and other collateral material).
  • Conduct site searches, negotiate terms and administer contracts with venue, entertainment, catering, A/V and other service providers. Serve as the logistical liaison for service providers.
  • Enlist and coordinate event planning committee members and other event workers, when needed.
  • Successfully execute events based on given budget and other parameters.
  • Ensure appropriate and timely communication with senior management, department leaders, employees, and vendors, including personal follow-up verbally, drafting emails and letters, etc.
  • Prepare pre- and post-event analysis, and assess opportunities and make recommendations for improving service to internal and external constituencies, and implement those recommendations as appropriate.

Manage Corporate Events                                                                                                                   

  • Collateral production and administrative/logistical support for events include RD Meetings, Loss Prevention Meetings, Annual Field Leadership meeting.
  • Manage the execution of the Circle of Excellence employee recognition program. Including creating the agendas, communications to the winners, working with the travel department on travel arrangements, sourcing the venues and negotiating the contract terms. Manages the budget, expenses and submits gross up.
  • Partner with merchandising team to arrange schedule for vendor summit meeting rooms and provide appropriate communication to the buying team.
  • Manage annual vendor tradeshow representing 300 companies. Partnering with all vendors on details, work with show decorator and the on-site contact for all parties.
  • Managing the budget of $6M with rebates

Dollar General Foundation Golf Classic

  • Serve as primary source for vendor communication, including distribution of invitation letters and registration forms.
  • Assist with accounting for Golf Classic including invoicing/collecting registration fees, preparing for annual audit.
  • Serve on the Golf Classic committee as a hotel coordinator, coordinating all hotel logistics and manage the registration process on site. Recruit employees to volunteer to staff the event.

Develop and execute other employee relations programs                                         

  • Serve as primary resource for employee discount programs for outside events/family entertainment opportunities with amusement parks, hotels, etc. including negotiating discount rates and working with legal on contracts.
  • Oversee the corporate logo wear program and provide support for sourcing specialty items for promotional needs.
  • Provide administrative back-up support for Executive Administrative Assistant to the CEO.

§ Proficient with Microsoft word, Excel and PowerPoint

§ Ability to maintain confidentiality is critical

§ Ability to travel periodically events and provide support for long periods of time at locations

 

Work Experience and/or Education:

7-10 years experience as a meetings and events planner for a major corporation with a high volume of meetings. Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications or related field, or relevant experience
