Job Details

Provides company decision logic, design input and technical support for store refrigeration and HVAC systems. Supports internal design teams for new store growth initiatives, collaborates within the energy management team on energy reduction initiatives, maintenance reduction and general value engineering initiatives aimed at continuous building improvement. Owns coordination of technical data associated with refrigeration with architecture and engineering, energy management, facility maintenance, construction teams and national account refrigeration manufacturers.

 

Responsibilities

  • Owns refrigeration and HVAC decision logic
    • Cross-functional position that will support all existing and new refrigeration and HVAC, store level and plan prototype decisions. Position provides technical expertise that will support the Energy and Building Systems, A&E, Construction and Store Facilities team.
    • Position will be responsible for maintaining a current understanding of evolving industry compliance requirements and will assist DG Design teams in making sustainability and efficiency decisions and improvements.
  • Process Management
    • Position will manage vendor schedule and equipment coordination on all new development projects in support of the new store and remodel opening plans. (ex. 1,000+ New, 750 Remodels annually)

    • Supports refrigeration and HVAC needs for four current DG prototypes and the DG Market legacy prototype.

  • Store Facilities maintenance support
    • Provides technical support for refrigeration and HVAC as it relates to existing store needs. This will include problem solving for existing equipment, parts and strategies to strengthen response times and corrective measures to support open stores. Types of refrigeration utilized includes self-contained visual cooler and freezer merchandisers, remote condenser supported visual cooler and freezer merchandisers, with and without internal rack systems, walk-in cooler and freezer merchandisers and walk-in cold storage units.
  • Program Initiative support
    • Will work closely with DG Merchandising team to provide technical support for new refrigeration initiatives. This will be a cross-functional team participation that will provide equipment options and strategies for swift execution of new and evolving refrigeration merchandise initiatives.
  • National Account vendor management
    • Position will be involved in the procurement of national account vendors for the DG program. Will act as technical expert on refrigeration and HVAC and work with the internal procurement team, A&E, Construction and Store Facilities on the on boarding and negotiation of new and existing vendors.

Qualifications

  • Proven technical skills and detailed knowledge of refrigeration and HVAC components including manufacturers, terminology, codes, and functional disciplines. Strong ability to write, read, interpret, understand, and apply refrigeration industry standards and specifications.
  • Demonstrated technical understanding to build cross-functional team alignment, commitment, and accountability for delivering results.
  • Ability to provide strategic thought leadership to organization planning needs and long-term goals.
  • Strong project management skills to effectively support the delivery of refrigeration and HVAC for the development pipeline and consistently deliver predictable results.
  • Proven tactical and thought leadership for dealing with complex and challenging business situations solved through fact-gathering, innovation, and sound decision-making.
  • Professional interpersonal and high impact influence skills resulting in an ability to effectively communicate, coordinate, align, and collaborate with a diverse set of internal and external project stakeholders.
  • Ability to understand and anticipate the needs of the customer and deliver outstanding service balanced with functional expertise.

 

Work Experience and/or Education

Bachelor and/or Master degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering preferred or 3-5 years of relevant industry work experience. Experience in grocery and / or retail sector is a plus. Strong knowledge of building and construction methodologies, and refrigeration codes and compliance regulations. Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office software and working knowledge of SLM (Store Lifecycle Management) or equivalent project management tools.
